What happened to John Mellencamp's America?

Did it ever really exist? Are we fed too much in the media? Are any of the "facts" we hear really true?

TRUTHOUT

Oh but ain’t that america for you and me
Ain’t that america we’re someting to see baby
Ain’t that america, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me

  1. "It´s hard times, for an honest man
    Very very hard times
Hard times, for an honest man
    Very very hard times"

"And I felt ashamed of my actions
And the way the west was really won
So I drove down the highway
Till I came to Los Angeles
    To the town
    of the angels
The best, this country can do
I got down on my knees
    And I asked for forgiveness
    I said, "Lord, forgive us
For we know not, what we
    do"

    "There´s a good life
    Right across the green fields
    And each generation
    Stares at it from afar
    But we keep no check
    On our appetites
So the green fields turn to brown
    Like paper in fire"
